This fully-narrated driving tour is designed for those
who are interested in learning more about the styles
of architecture that give Boston it's distinctive
personality: from the Federalist architecture of
Beacon Hill to the Victorian townhomes of Back Bay
and the South End, to the triple-deckers of
Dorchester and Jamaica Plain. The tour will feature
the work of noted architects Charles Bullfinch, H.H.
Richardson and I.M. Pei, and will also address
related issues to urban planning.
This tour will begin at
your hotel or transport
terminal and take you
through various
neighborhoods
including the North
End, the West End,
Beacon Hill, Back Bay,
Copley Square, the
South End, Jamaica
Plain and parts of
Mission Hill and the
Fenway where you can
see how the various
styles of Boston's
architecture reflect
changing notions of
taste and practicality.
You'll see how green
space and mass transit
can alter a
neighborhood's
character and way of
life. Time and schedule
permitting, you'll be
able to tour one or
more historic buildings
in Boston and see the
impact that fine design
can make.
